The work “Larva” explores the metamorphosis of the soul throughout life and its transit towards death, representing the body as a receptacle of transformation. In a triangular composition, a female figure emerges from a sea of hands that support her, as witnesses and participants in her evolutionary process.
The turquoise feather on her forehead suggests lightness and connection with the ethereal, in contrast with the mantle of dry leaves that envelops her, a symbol of the ephemeral and the expiration of existence. In the center of her chest, an etching and aquatint engraving, made by electrolysis, reveals the image of a beetle larva: the latent potential of a transformation still in process.
Color plays a fundamental role in the piece, connecting the symbols through its emotional and symbolic charge. The vibrant reddish and magenta tones at the top evoke the visceral, the blood, the vital energy in movement, while the hands in bluish and purplish tones that hold her up remind us of the weight of memory and accumulated experience.
