I paint, both in series and singularly, through a study of the colors that reflect the theme I want to represent; the tones that I use emerge from the theme itself. Colors are the essence and the strength of my work, and it is color that allows me to express and convey the depths of my inner self. I find inspiration in themes that formed my own childhood and for which I am able to express in a unique, conscious, and precise language through my work: identity, rural experience, and the history of my native Guatemala. In school, I entered a drawing contest and won, to my own surprise. Even as a child, I was motivated to explore a unique world of the mind, leaving reality behind through submerging myself in a unique world, perceiving the reality surrounding me through feeling and energy, experiencing that reality transformed into the texture and tactile thickness of color. With a notion to continue discovering and experimenting with new techniques in the freedom of exploration of color, I found myself an artist in the abstract movement, seeking to augment my art through both technique and content. My purpose as an artist is to make timeless stories known, from every corner of our lives and between generations. With each piece, I recognize both the uniqueness and the vestigial nature of my own stories and experiences, and I come to know more richly my spirituality. The ambiguity inherent in my work invites the viewer to enjoy the colors and textures and also to interpret the work within the context of their own story, becoming a co-author and creating their own concept, as the work itself becomes a telling of our stories.
