I am not a decorator of walls.
My work cannot be thought of as adornment.
To me, art is never decoration but rather a registry of human experience in all its forms, from the intellectual to the emotional and the intuitive. Through art, I seek to explore the human experience in this moment, this space, this reality, this authentic totality.
The ever-evolving dynamism of art throughout history captivates me completely, from works documenting historical events to those that explore the most deeply personal of the human emotions. Grandiose paintings of kings and gods compel me in equal measure as depictions of vagabonds and prostitutes, and in the same afternoon I can be totally overcome by a sketch of a plate of fried eggs in a quiet kitchen.
Art is my acceptance of the invitation to relentlessly question myself and my perceptions, Who am I? What am I doing here? In this world, in my own corner of reality?
Art compels me to look around me, in order to recognize and question: Through what filters am I perceiving my circumstances and surroundings? Through the perspective of values learned as a youth or in years of experiences? Through the lens of ideologies in which have I been immersed since my birth?
I am no judge.
I am one who observes.
Through my art, I can become as a child, a newly born babe who doesn’t yet know the duality of good or evil, and as a child, I explore this world and observe this reality.
In the space where there is no good or evil, no correct or wayward path, no ugliness or even beauty -
Within my art,
As a child plays, so do I.
