"Return Flight" is a work created on a circular canvas, using acrylic and oil paints on fabric. At the center of the triangular composition is a female figure draped in a mantle made of dried leaves, symbolizing death and the inevitable. On her chest rests a dead bird, illustrated in turquoise ink and bound with a red cord, connecting it to her through stitches that pierce her skin. The figure's face and disheveled hair seem to radiate a luminous halo, while a thread of light emanates from her forehead, symbolically bridging life and death. The piece draws inspiration from the concept of dualities, as explored in philosophies like Taoism and the Kybalion, where opposites are not separate entities but points within the same continuous cycle. Life and death coexist, mutually sustaining each other and forming part of a greater whole. This idea is reflected in the interplay of the work's elements: the vitality of the colors against the symbolism of the dead bird, and the contrast between the thread of light emanating from the forehead and the dried leaves of the mantle. The use of color is essential in conveying this narrative. Vibrant, ethereal turquoise tones contrast with the intense reds of the cord, symbolizing the connection between the physical and the spiritual. The ochres and browns of the leaf mantle evoke the passage of time and decay, while the golden and warm tones surrounding the figure’s face suggest enlightenment and transcendence. This color palette, combined with loose, atmospheric brushstrokes, creates a sense of cyclical motion that wraps the piece in an aura of calm and depth. The atmosphere of "Return Flight" is intimate and contemplative, serving as a meditation on the inevitable cycles of existence. Through this piece, viewers are invited to reflect on the duality of life and death—not as a separation, but as an infinite continuity that encompasses everything.
